Portokalia Me Meli

Portokalia me Meli

Portokalia me meli translates to oranges with honey. Fresh fruit has always been a staple in Greek cuisine, and most people think of watermelon as the most popular fruit of Greece. However, there are orange-producing regions of Greece, such as the Peloponnese and Western regions, where you will find oranges as the 'star'. It just takes a couple of minutes to make this beautiful and healthy dessert, as you only need a couple of oranges, honey, and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 2 seedless oranges
  • honey; to drizzle
  • cinnamon; to sprinkle

Method

  1. To make Portokalia me Meli: Remove orange rinds, and slice in any way you like. I usually cut mine down the middle, cross-wise. Feel free to use clementines or tangerines if you prefer. Arrange on a plate.
  2. Drizzle honey over the oranges (not too much as the oranges are already sweet).
  3. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Some people like to add a little bit of chopped mint as well, but I prefer them without.
  4. You can serve portokalia me meli in various ways: - as a healthy snack - with greek yogurt for breakfast - as a beautiful addition to a green salad for lunch - for dessert after a heavy meal
